Let's start a band!!! Any aging musician will more than likely tell you that once in there lifetime they thought about starting or joining a band. Even those whose aspirations of being the next solo superstar feel the need to play along side fellow musicians in search of that perfect vibe, that feeling of being a part of something that can change people's emotions. As a child you dream of emulating your hero's but as you grow older the day to day grind filters these dreams until it is too late to do anything about them. Vested Interest is/was not about making money (we never did), being famous or adored, it's just about having a laugh with your mates in a different town every week, and in turn, fulfilling a dream to be in a band.
"Dress them up in some decent clobber and i'll give thee thirty pound". Blue Lane is where it all started for Colin (Vocals), Phil (Vocals, Guitar and Bass) and Andy (Vocals and Guitar) along with then fellow band mates Paul (drums), John (keyboards), Steve (guitar) and original drummer Louie A six piece pop and rock band who were young, vibrant and raw. They played the social clubs around the north of england for several years, playing to audiences both large and small. Audiences interested in the music they performed and some more interested in the nights bingo. Blue Lane performed though out the early eighties and having made an impression, disbanded in 1984 having left a mark on the scene, leaving lots of fond and funny memories to all those lucky enough to have experienced them live.
Each of the members moved on to various projects. Colin, Andy and Phil eventually got the itch to play live again together back in 1991/1992. Several months later they where joined by two young engineers, Julian and Stewart, who mainly concentrated on the production of the live shows. The line up was now complete.
The name Vested Interest was suggested by an audience member during a very early gig when the band had no name. On requesting the audience to suggest a name during the gig, Vested Interest was chosen, the person who suggested this earned himself a pint of lager. His name is no longer known.
